Barbier Wooden Boehm

Instrument: Cylindrical Boehm flute in C, Wood cocus?

Maker: Florentin Barbier, Paris c. 1890. Barbier was active from 1868 to 1910. This flute was made during the period when Barbier worked for Couesnon, 1885 - 1898. It has the serial number 636.

Pitch: A=435

Embouchure size:

Restorer: David Chu

Notes: This flute came to me from Italy in quite nice condition. It needed new pads and adjustments but was excellent shape mechanically with virtually no visible wear. Unfortunately, it was determined that the embouchure had been adjusted somewhat from the original so David Chu made and insert and cut a new embouchure and created a new silver lip plate. It now plays beautifully. There are a number of unusual features in the mechanism which David had not seen previously. Barbier was known for being a constant experimenter. I find this to be a strikingly beautiful flute.
