Conical Boehm system flute by Buffet Crampon & Cie, Paris. Probably made around 1870-1880. The French conical Boehm flute began just after 1832 and remained an important flute model until the start of the 20th Century. It existed along side of the "Cylinder Flute of Boehm," and the continued development of the Simple System flute (see my other Buffet flute as these are probably from around the same time period.) This is a very fine example featuring a “modern G#,” a delicate Briccialdi b/b-flat, a tuning slide (unusual in Boehm flutes) and a B-foot. Pitch, with the slide as pictured here is A=440. Thus, it should work from A=435 to slightly above 440. The tuning cap is rather unusual and I suspect that at some point the original cap broke and the original cap was cut down to this smaller size. It does appear to be the original wood.
